--Under Construction--

Stars and Rails

While my writing is a sort of avocation, I have two additional pursuits I like to do just for fun and mental exercise. These are model railroading and astrophotography. I never had a model train as a kid, so I'm making up for that in my "declining years." When we moved from Decatur, GA to Gainesville, FL in 2020, I talked Susan into letting me have one of the two Jack-and-Jill bedrooms to use for an N-scale model train layout. In a weak moment, she said 'yes,' and so I ran with it! This venture is a second-generation version of a small and primitive layout I had in my Decatur study. For example, the few buildings I had in Decatur were made from heavy stock paper prints of simple designs I created using PowerPoint. The Gainesville layout has buildings I designed using TinkerCad and 3D printed on a Prusa Mini printer, very recently upgraded to Prusa's new Core One printer. You can see a YouTube Video about my first attempt here, and I'm working on a video about the new layout and will post a link at some point down the road.

I'll add more details about my astrophotography kick, which naturally devolves from my professional life. In the meantime, I have an astrophotography YouTube item here from a year ago. Since then, I've relocated my telescope system to a very dark site in Texas that you can learn about here.  --More to come--
